Avira Android product awarded top marks from AV-TEST
The independent test institute came to this conclusion after testing 36 IT security apps between January and June 2014. A total of eight apps, including our free Android Antivirus Security, were awarded the maximum of 13 points. To be awarded all points, the programs had to scan the current collection of almost 2,300 viruses and detect all malicious apps and attacks. We are delighted with the result, especially since Avira has done very well in the past in analyses conducted by AV-TEST.
The AV-TEST Institute is one of the world’s leading independent providers of IT security and antivirus research. In the mobile security apps test, six points each were awarded for optimum protection and usability, as well as one point for extra functions. While protection is important, usability is greatly impaired if the smartphone has to be recharged every couple of hours because it uses too much battery. Avoidance of false alarms is just as important, so-called ‘false positives’: some of our competitors’ apps label innocent mobile programs as malicious and issued alarms incorrectly. We pay special attention to correct and clear detection of malicious software over harmless software, and thus Avira gained the maximum points in this respect too.
While in the past security apps were optional for smartphones, the increasing number of harmful programs on smart phones is changing things. Between June 2013 and June 2014, the number of viruses tripled to more than 2.6 million. We are also seeing the first reports of ransomware on Androids. Ransomware blocks access to the mobile device and, if the owner is lucky, only releases it in return for payment.
So don’t delay in installing our Android Antivirus Security app on your smartphone.
